Yeah, we met on the street!

Categories:

Turns out that if you let the community transform a space, they’ll do it with gusto! Over 1,000 people came out to Lincoln Park Meet on the Street yesterday, Sunday July 13.  For a few hours, 3rd St. between 24th and 27th Avenues West was a new community center–a space where you could get to know your neighbors, play some games, enjoy storytime under the trees, cover the asphalt with chalk art, meet Laverne the Lake Superior Zoo chinchilla and her creepy-crawly buddies, and much more.

Did you go to Meet on the Street? Share your story here. Tell us what you liked or didn’t like–and stay tuned for next year! Can we make it 1500? Or even more?

YMCA Youth Summer Corps

“Mom/Dad/Grandma/Grandpa, I’m boooooooooooooooooored.”

If you have heard those sounds coming from your middle schooler (how many syllables are there in bored, anyway? Twenty?), it might just be summertime. The YMCA would like to announce a great opportunity, though: their Summer Youth Corps program, aimed at youth who have just finished 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.  The program runs Monday-Friday afternoons (12:30-4) from July 7 to July 25, and it features volunteer activities, field trips, fun excursions, team building, and chances to explore Duluth. The group meets at Lincoln Park Middle School and visits different sites from there. There’s no cost to attend, and there’s still space available,  so call the Y at 218-722-4745 or stop by their office at 302 W. 1st St. downtown to get more information or register today!
